DETAILED ITINERARY RUBONDO ISLAND, SERENGETI & NGORONGORO

Day 1: Transfer to Ngorongoro conservation area
Pick up from your hotel in Arusha by your tour guide after your breakfast and you will take on a scenic drive to the beautiful Ngorongoro conservation area, one of the most visited protected areas in Tanzania. On this day, you will take on an afternoon game drive around the plains of Ngorongoro outside the crater exploring Ndutu plains and areas around the Gol mountains. Overnight at your safari lodge.
Day 2: Ngorongoro crater drive and transfer to Serengeti national park
Ngorongoro crater is a world nature wonder that is worth exploring. You will take on a game drive at the floor of this massive unbroken caldera that is home about 30,000 animals inclusive of the iconic big 5. Explore the different habitats in the crater looking out for hippos, black rhinos, elephants, lions, buffalos, leopards, wildebeests, zebras, warthogs, impalas, waterbucks and over 300 bird species. You will enjoy a picnic lunch within the crater at the hippo pool side and then ascend back to the crater rim, drive to your lodge for check out and then exit the conservation area driving to the Serengeti national park.
Day 3: Serengeti national park
The face of Tanzania’s wilderness, home to the annual wildebeest migration, Serengeti national park. Full day exploration of the wildlife filled plains of Serengeti. Expect good sightings of predators like lions, cheetahs, leopards, spotted hyenas, jackals, bat eared foxes, crocodiles and millions of ungulates including the most common, the wildebeests, zebras, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, impalas, elands, bushbucks, klipspringers, dik-diks and other animals like the elephants, giraffes, buffalos, warthogs, mongoose, black rhinos, hyrax and more. You can explore the park on game drives, walking safaris and hot air ballon safaris.
Day 4: Flight to Rubondo Island national park
After your leisure morning breakfast, pack your bags and your tour guide will drive you to the airstrip to catch your domestic flight to Rubondo Island national park in Lake Victoria, West of Serengeti national park. A guide will be waiting to receive you at the Rubondo airstrip to welcome you and drive you to Rubondo Island camp, a deluxe comfortable accommodation facility on the island. You will go on an afternoon boat ride on the Lake Victoria and explore the island shores and its islets. Look out for crocodiles, otters, hippos, water birds like African fish eagle, ibises, herons, storks and kingfishers and the animals on the shores like bushbucks, elephants, sitatungas, vervet monkeys among others.
Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking in Rubondo Island national park
Chimpanzee trekking on Rubondo Island national park is an adventurous thrilling experience. It takes you through the dense forests of the island as you look for the playful human like apes. Early in the morning after your breakfast. You will head out with your experienced guides and trackers who will help guide you to the chimpanzees. Enjoy the different sights and sounds as you walk through the forest. Be rest assured that you will hear the chimpanzees before you see them because these primates are very vocal. Spend 30 minutes or more with the wild chimpanzees before you return to the camp for lunch. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 6: Mwanza city – End of safari
Last day of your 6-day Rubondo island national park, Serengeti national park and Ngorongoro conservation area safari. You could enjoy more of the island on guided walking safaris. As you wait for your flight off the island national park to Mwanza city where your safari will end.
